EC3 & SULO for Cleanup Aus Daye-Cycle Central Coast was proud to support Sulo Australia in their recent Clean Up Australia Day efforts. Over 500kgs of e-waste was collected by Sulo staff & processed at EC3’s Nth Wyong facility. EC3 acknowledges Sulo’s proactive commitment to the environment & appreciate the opportunity to be involved in such events. |
The Federal Government through the Environment Protection & Heritage Commission (EPHC) along with State Environment ministers are moving along a path to introduce national Product Stewardship and Extended Producer Responsibility legislation for end-of-life TVs and Computers. The intention is to substantially increase national recycling rates starting with end-of-life TVs and computers; divert such hazardous waste from landfill and maximise resource recovery. Recycling standards including a code of practice are being developed to ensure best practice recycling is carried out. Responsibility for so doing will be shared by the computer and TV brands, retailers and consumers. The scheme will be industry funded and industry led, and administered by accredited Producer Responsible Organisations. Recycling targets will be set and agreed with the Government. Consumers will probably have to bear a small cost on purchase of new equipment but will incur no charge for environmentally responsible disposal. Proposed timeline for legislation is April 2012.
